The Paper Crane - Part 2
Andrew walked up to Sabine to ask her if Samuel was her brother. Sabine nodded her head. He then asked if she could help him look after his brother while he ran an errand. Sabine nodded her head again. She watched him walk away, wondering if he recognised her. Then it occurred to her that he must be living in the vicinity as he seemed to know his way around. About half an hour later, Andrew returned with a bag of what looked like groceries. He thanked Sabine for her help and waved for his brother before walking off with him. It was also time for her to bring Samuel back. Once back in her room, she took out the lollipop that Andrew had given her that night and she wondered if she would see him again.
Sabine who had always dread bringing her brother down to the playground, suddenly couldn't wait to take him there. She couldn't explain why but somehow she sensed that Andrew would be there too. Sure enough, Andrew appeared at about the same time with his brother at the playground. This time round, he recognised Sabine as the gal who had helped him the day before. As soon as his brother had settled down with Samuel, Andrew approached Sabine. Sensing that she was a timid gal, he performed some magic tricks to break the ice. Sabine who was amazed by what he could do, overcame her shyness and asked if he could show her how the tricks were being done. Andrew obliged and soon both of them were chatting enthusiastically about magic. Sabine who had always been fascinated by magic, was told that he had learnt the secrets of some of the tricks from his father - the magician at the Christmas party and had been assisting him on his numerous performance around the island. Then it was time for them to bring their brothers back and they promised to meet up again at the playground the next day.
Soon it became almost a daily affair for both of them to see each other at the playground. Gradually, they weren't just talking about magic but also about their other interests. Then on days when they didn't get to meet either due to wet weather or their brother's unwillingness to go down to the playground, they would chat online. Andrew who was sitting for his 'O' level again, would advise Sabine to use her time wisely and not to neglect her studies like what he did. Although their main meeting place was confined to the playground, there were occasions when Sabine managed to meet him at his place of performance, by making use of Samuel - she would tell her granny that he wanted to watch the performance. In spite of the fact that Samuel was only six, he wasn't blind to what was going on between Andrew and his sister. In fact, he noticed that she was a much happier person when she was with Andrew. Sabine realised that herself too but couldn't explain why she felt that way. Somehow Sabine managed to shut his mouth with candies. Until one day when .....................................................
